There are a right way and a wrong way of doing things, most of the time in the world of marketing there is no gray area. Whatever you decide on doing is imprinted for eternity online, there is no way to manage the damage once done. Hence, increasing the pressure of getting things done the right way, the first time around. There is minimal space for mistakes, and errors are very expensive to cover up. Bulk email marketing is effective and affordable, we have covered that already. Yet just like all mediums of digital marketing, this too requires precision, and to be error free. You represent your company and all that it stands for when sending an email to potential clients. There are a couple of things to keep in mind while emailing. Here are three major things not to do when email marketing.
Ask for permission
Always ask permission! How would you feel if some random person would ring up your cell phone everyday talk to you about things that you may or may not be interested in? You have no idea how this random person got your phone number, yet they keep on calling every day without stopping. Frustrating right? Well, the same goes for emails, people consider them to be private, you cannot barge in without permission, start making offers and expect them to buy whatever you are offering. It is also an invasion of privacy. Remember to always ask people to sign up in order to receive emails from you, rather than just assuming they’d love to read whatever you are offering.
Remember to add an easy unsubscribe button in the email as well, you do not want to frustrate people with your services and offerings, you want them to like you, miss you in their inboxes. You also want to remain within the law, which according to the CAN-SPAM act you need to give the ability to your audience to stop receiving updates from email marketers at their leisure.
Tip: people who have opted out of receiving emails, should be removed from your mailing list. Do not add them unless they subscribe again.
Attachments
Never send emails that have an attachment. It is the best way to lose clients, attachments are usually marked as spam, and people tend not to trust emails with an attachment to them. Even if you are emailing a client a receipt of their recent transaction, send it in-line with your email and not as an attachment. I cannot emphasize the importance of this issue. It might just seem like nothing but it is one of the largest reasons why smaller businesses lose clients and have a higher un-subscribers list. There is no good reason why you need to send bulk emails with attachments on them.
No reply Emails
Email addresses containing these two words ‘No reply’ get almost no viewership. The magic that makes email marketing work is that it can be personalized as well as personified. Robots have not yet taken over all aspects of our life, and so, people do not appreciate receiving let alone checking out what an automated email has to say. Make your campaigns come to life by making a real email address to email your clients with.
